Why excavators need precise tilt sensor

Modern excavators are no longer just digging machines — they are increasingly used as semi-automated grading platforms. To do that well, the controller needs to know the angle of the boom, the stick, the bucket and the chassis at all times, and it needs that information in the presence of heavy vibration, hydraulic shock and rapid temperature swings.

Typical use case

Excavator boom Monitoring

The DTS dynamic inclinometer is mounted on the excavator boom. It accurately captures real-time pitch angle data of the boom under heavy-vibration working conditions.

  • The angle information is fed to the vehicle controller.
  • Supports automatic slope grading and 3D machine guidance.
  • Enables other semi-automated earth-moving functions.
