Medical imaging equipment: gantry tilt & patient couch levelling

A CT gantry tilts up to ±30° for scan angulation, a patient couch must return to a truly horizontal reference every time it retracts, and the whole suite is only as good as the levelling it was installed with. A dual-axis inclinometer inside the gantry gives the scan controller true tilt angle, not a potentiometer proxy — and a magnetic-base digital level turns installation and service levelling into a number on a screen.

  • 0.001° resolution · 0.005° MAE
  • Full ±30° tilt envelope
  • Traceable digital output

Why imaging equipment needs a measuring-grade tilt sensor

Gantry tilt changes the scan plane itself: an unmeasured or under-measured tilt angle propagates straight into the image geometry, and service engineers verify it after every installation and every repair. A potentiometer or a coarse switch cannot give the controller — or the service protocol — a traceable number. A 0.001°-resolution MEMS inclinometer can, and it does so over the full ±30° tilt envelope with 0.005° accuracy.

Typical use cases

True angle from install to service

  • Gantry tilt-angle feedback in CT / DR / interventional systems — an HTS6 fixed inside the gantry, axis-aligned with the mechanical tilt axis, feeds the scan controller continuously, so the displayed tilt angle equals the true mechanical tilt.
  • Tilt-axis drift checks in preventive maintenance — the same signal flags drift before image geometry complaints reach the customer.
  • Patient couch return-to-horizontal — a sensor on the couch base confirms every retraction lands back on a truly horizontal reference.
  • Installation & service levelling — a magnetic-base digital level verifies the suite's setup with a number on a screen, not a bubble.
