Digital Level for Slope & Flatness Survey | Ruicom GDS4
Application

Slope gradient and surface levelness measurement

From road crossfall to machine-foundation flatness, the surveyor needs a levelness reading that is numeric, repeatable and independent of a spirit bubble. The GDS4 series electronic level covers ±180° single-axis or ±90° dual-axis with 0.01° resolution and 0.05° full-range accuracy — handheld, magnetically mounted, and switchable between absolute and relative measurement.

  • 0.05° full-range accuracy

construction

Why construction surveying needs a digital electronic level

A spirit level depends on the operator's eye and a theodolite measures angles, not the flatness of a plane — yet the specifications surveyors work to are gradient tolerances: 1.5–2.5 % road crossfall, rail track in mm/m, machine bases at 0.1 mm/m. The GDS4 closes that gap: its dual-core unit with cross-axis and temperature compensation reads directly in degrees and mm/m, holds the value on a high-contrast LCD, and exports it — while absolute/relative switching lets a crew set a reference plane on site and check every subsequent element against it, hands free.

Typical use cases

Two workflows, one handheld instrument

  • Crossfall, camber & longitudinal gradient verification — the level is placed on the finished surface, or on a straight-edge spanning it, and reads crossfall directly in mm/m and degrees — picking up ponding flat spots before the surface course closes out.
  • Reference-plane setting for foundations & machine bases — the first element is set in absolute mode, then the instrument is switched to relative mode and every subsequent pour, kerb or rail is checked against it — the standard workflow for crane rails and machine beds.
